Working A Small Shoot

You know it is a low budget short film when the gaffer is leveling track and pushing the dolly.

I recently worked on a low-budget short film as the gaffer.  It is the kind of thing I generally turn down; not so much because I don't like doing the work, but it means turning down work that pays my bills.

Of course on a small shoot, job titles don't mean much.  Everyone pitches-in and helps with whatever needs to be done.

Out of appleboxes

You also can tell it is a low budget film when you need to use the R/O case for an applebox.

Necessity is the mother of invention.  Something we do on-set, all-the-time by coming up with solutions to problems.  It is interesting how much can be accomplished with a small crew and limited equipment.
