One of my favorite lights is the Prolycht Orion 675 FS. I have 2 in my inventory. These are bright, full-color heads built like tanks. I love the form-factor with the built-in power supply. You put it on a stand, plug it in, and you are ready to start lighting. There is nothing else to build, attach, cable, etc. It's an efficient design.
There are some quirks to them:
- The factory power cord is strange; maybe 20 feet long with the power switch in the middle. The first thing I thought was the switch is going to get stepped-on. Sure enough, the first time I used one of these lights, the switch was stepped-on and broken. When I replaced the switch, I shortened the cord and put the switch close to the head. You can see my modified power cord in the picture above. It's a big improvement over the factory power cord.
- There's a yellow tag on the back of my light. It says to only use the power cord switch. The head does have a power switch but I never use it. The reason is the head switch on one of my lights broke after only a couple of uses. It was under warranty, but it took nearly 2 months for me to get a replacement light. After that, I never use the switch on the head.
- Not just a quick to the Orion, if the light is raised up on a stand, the control panel can no longer been seen. A ladder will fix the problem, but it's usually better to use CRMX to control the light. It's easier.
Other than these quirks, these are great lights. It is why Aputure bought Prolycht. Aputure's new Storm lights are just a newer versions of the Orion.
