WASHINGTON, DC (AP)  Overnight states started joining Canada.  It was surprising  realignment to many experts.  Yet others had expected the move.  It started with Michigan.  At 12:01 AM EDT, Michigan announced it was now joining Canada as the 11th province.  There was a tense pause for a few hours, then Wisconsin joined quickly followed by Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio.  Then began a torrent with state after state joining in quick secession.  By 8 AM EDT, the total had reached 48 states joining Canada as new provinces.  The 2 standouts were: Maine which joined Greenland citing their love of cold icy places; and Florida.  Canada said they didn’t want it for now but would leave the door open for future consideration citing their love of Orlando theme parks.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney welcomed the 48 new provinces.  He expected an adjustment period where former Americans would need to learn to be civil, polite, and stop shooting each other with their own guns.
